We spent the next two hours drawing pieces we thought we could use while the guys trickled in looking for food and coffee. âCan you imagine sleeping until nine or nine-thirty?â
âI donât remember the last time I slept until seven.â Declan spun his tablet around so I could see what he had accomplished. Between the two of us, we had come up with a pink teddy bear, a crude rendering of a ferris wheel, an upside-down ice cream cone, a dancing chili-dog, a green balloon poodle, a clown face, and a few others.
âYou couldnât have left the clowns out, huh?â He knew I hated clowns. Iâve hated them since I was young. âIâm not doing that one.â
âItâs a classic fair icon.â
âNope. You can do those.â
We convinced two of the guys to stand guard outside the shop. Fiona was right about opening. It wouldnât hurt to pull in some business and take advantage of the curious minds. None of us were planning to go to the fair until evening anyway. They had a few bands lined up to play and thatâs what we were all looking forward to. Our plan for the day was simple. Since we didnât have any appointments set up, we would only allow two people in the shop at any given time. Once we finished with one person, weâd allow another to come in. Not knowing who I could trust was a bit of a deterrent to having multiple people come in at once and if we only had two, it would stop people from trying to snoop around while they were there.
Declan and I agreed to open for five hours or until the crowd died down. Part of me hoped by the time we got to the shop, the horde of people would have dispersed so we could relax for the day instead. It didnât. It had grown to what I would guess was three times the size it was when I was here earlier. When we all pulled up, we saw Alex doing his best to control the crowd that had migrated into the street. There wasnât any traffic because most tourists and locals were at the fair but if there were, the crowd would have been blocking it. The two guys cleared a path just wide enough for Declan and me to get to the front door and Alex magically appeared beside us and followed us inside.
âWas this your idea?â He stood with his arms crossed, sweat dripped down his temple.
âNo. But I figured I might as well take advantage of it.â
âYou canât have people blocking the street. Theyâre about to start rioting. This is exactly why people didnât want you here to begin with.â
âIâm sorry youâve had a tough morning, but this isnât my fault. I didnât ask for any of these people to come here. I was supposed to have these four days off so I could enjoy the fair and spend time with my friends. And to be fair, you didnât
